LinkedIn Reveals List of Top 25 Canadian Startups

The Canadian startup scene has seen incredible growth over the last few years, and LinkedIn has taken it upon themselves to track the 25 best startups in the country.

Their inaugural edition of the Top Startups list features some of the most well-known names in the Canadian technology world. The list is compiled with several factors in mind, including interest in the company, engagement with employees, job interest, and retention.

“In the race for talent, an ever-evolving fundraising landscape and industry rife with unprecedented innovation, startups are cutting through the noise with inventive benefits and perks, visionary leadership and their own unique spin on what it means to be a top startup,” a LinkedIn release reads.

Below are LinkedIn’s top five Canadian startups for 2018.

  1. Wealthsimple – The Toronto-based fintech has been on a tear over the last few years as it helps to offer Canadians a smarter and more streamlined way to invest. Earlier this year, Wealthsimple raised $65 million from their institutional investor, along with passing over $2 billion in total assets managed. They continue to expand their suite of features with savings accounts and stock trading recently being added.
  2. Coinsquare – As one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in Canada, Coinsquare has taken it upon themselves to expand in new directions over the past year. The Toronto company recently announced a licensing program to bring their tech to new markets and partners, and they will also be expanding into Europe by the end of 2018.
  3. Element AI – This Montreal firm helps companies create solutions based in AI. They work with various different industries and use the power of machine learning and predictive models to increase efficiency and explore new ways to tackle problems.
  4. League Inc. – On the cutting edge of health insurance, League works with companies to provide new ways to embrace a shifting work demographic. More people want access to different kinds of health benefits, and the Toronto-based League is offering wellness services, the ability to book virtual appointments and more.
  5. Kira Systems – As a Toronto-based legal AI firm, Kira helps clients identify and extract text in complex documents and contracts. This streamlined approach can save huge amounts of time and let professionals focus instead on working directly with their clients and bringing them the best level of service.
